Public schools cutting back arts/music. In the return to basics what is being left out? Shouldn't schools teach children how to think?

Have schools forsaken teaching principles of democracy and human rights? The Constitution?

Schools not teaching students how to think for themselves.

The best teachers leaving the profession. Teachers are underpaid.

State colleges raising tuition.

Media - Little asking of questions, lack of investigative reporting.

Censorship of sex education in the public schools by the Christian fundamentalists.

Corporate culture promoting a consumerist mentality. Pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Congress axing the Office of Technology Assessment and cutting back funding to the NSF.

The right-wing is cutting support for all cultural activities - NPR, PBS, NEA, NEH, etc.

Attempts by corporations, government and religious political extremists to censor the Internet.

Political campaigning by negative slurs on personality rather than issues.

Fundamentalists attempting to impose religious morality and interpretation - creationism, etc.

Advertising on everything.

Reduction of the public sphere, attempts to privatize and make money on things that should only be in the public domain.
